Avoid ROT: Redundant, Outdated, and Trivial content
  • Ask yourself is this page really necessary? Does it exist already on some other web page that I can merely link to? Should it exist?

  • Do not duplicate information that is already on another page: link to it.

  • Avoid relative dates like “two years ago”, “now", “new”, "in the next six months", "shortly"; these are relative timeframes that become meaningless over time; instead use specific dates like “in 2007”.

  • Whenever possible, list offices or roles and avoid using individuals’ names, e.g., USE: The Director of Fun & Games oversees… INSTEAD OF: Director of Fun & Games Francis Johnson oversees …
