Urban Planet is the Web Content Management System (CMS) that Minneapolis Public Schools uses to manage our district and school websites. Urban Planet is the only CMS sanctioned for use by the Communications Department.
A Content Management System (CMS) is software that allows individuals with limited technical expertise to edit content on a webpage without necessarily needing to know coding like HTML.
To gain access to Urban Planet, you must first take Web Accessibility Essentials Training on The Source. At the end of this training, you'll be linked to a Google Form which you can use to request access to Urban Planet.
Urban Planet CMS works best with Google Chrome on both Mac and PC platforms.
To login to a school or department, simply add /admin to the homepage URL. For example, folwell.mpls.k12.mn.us/admin, or sheridan.mpls.k12.mn.us/admin.
A web page is smaller part of an entire website containing more specific information. A website is a collection of web pages. If a website is a book, than a web page is a single chapter in that book.
Absolutely! Contact answers@mpls.k12.mn.us in the Communications Department to set up a group PD or one-on-one training session.
